Direct Line sheds 900 in cost-cutting

5 September 2012

Direct Line is axing 900 jobs as part of cost-cutting plans ahead of its demerger from parent group Royal Bank of Scotland and flotation on the stock market.

The insurer said the moves were part of initiatives to target £100 million of annual cost savings by the end of 2014. The closure of a site in Stockton-on-Tees will lead to 500 of the job losses. Direct Line, which owns the Churchill and Green Flag brands, employs about 15,000 staff in total.
