Google Glass in Ray-Ban tie-up

Google is continuing its quest to make its Glass headwear the latest must-have accessory, signing up the company behind Ray-Ban and Oakley sunglasses to make frames for the gadget.

Italian eyewear maker Luxottica has agreed to design, develop and distribute new versions of the web-connected glasses.

Luxottica chief executive Andrea Guerra said: “We believe that a strategic partnership with a leading player like Google is the ideal platform for developing a new way forward in our industry and answering the evolving needs of consumers on a global scale.”

The deal is the latest attempt by Google to make its Glass gadget fashionable, following collaborations with designer Diane von Furstenberg and the launch of trendy frames.

Although Glass has yet to launch commercially, Google has struggled with a perception of the gadget’s owners as Glassholes - obnoxious and unaware of people around them.
