Rat-catcher Rentokil leaps thanks to cuts

Revenues from ongoing operations inched up by 2.7%

Warm weather means more pests, helping rat-catcher Rentokil Initial enjoy a 39% jump in pre-tax profit to £66.8 million for the first half.

Most of that was, however, due to cost-cutting. Revenues from ongoing operations inched up by 2.7%.

Rentokil said it was doing especially well in North America, Asia, France and Germany.

New chief executive Andy Ransom said of the company, whose work spans toilet bins, uniform washing and office plant watering: “Revenue growth was particularly strong in our pest-control category.

“As expected, challenging trading conditions persist in our European businesses.”

The shares, which were down at 97p a year ago, slipped 1.5p to 117p.
