StubHub blow: Hackers hit ticket sales site after buying 'thousands of tickets'

Hackers have been caught illegally buying thousands of tickets through ticket reselling giant StubHub after hundreds of accounts were hacked, according to police.

The company, official partner of London’s O2 Arena, said that passwords and log-in details hacked from other websites were used to log into StubHub in a mass attack but did not directly infiltrate the ticket seller’s systems.

The revelation is the latest embarrassment for the website’s owner eBay, which is still recovering from its own hacking of millions of passwords and data this year, forcing its entire user base to change their passwords.

Authorities from the US, UK and Canada are expected to give details of the arrests today following a global investigation.

StubHub recently signed a deal to become the offical reseller at the O2 Centre, which hosts stars such as Taylor Swift, pictured. StubHub is also the official reseller for football tickets for Tottenham, Everton and Sunderland.

Last year, it suffered humiliation after it was revealed a hacker targeted it and other resellers, selling fake tickets to music concerts for Beyonce and One Direction.

A spokesman for Stubhub said: “We did not have anyone who hacked into our system.”
