Londoners will be able to have beer and burgers delivered to their doors from the pub, under new home-delivery plans unveiled on Tuesday by the boss of Mitchells & Butlers.

Phil Urban said his firm started a trial with Deliveroo in August for 25 All Bar One and Browns sites for food orders.

The pubs chief said he wants to see alcohol and meal deliveries from around 100 of his London and home counties pubs over the next 12 months.

“Our business model is customer led, and there is a demand for this,” Urban added.

The firm, which is behind the O’Neill’s brand, saw sales at pubs open for more than a year fall 0.8% in the year to September 24.

Same store sales edged up 0.5% in the last eight weeks, but pretax profits dropped to £94 million from £126 million.

Mitchells & Butlers also warned on the increased costs it will face owing to the Brexit vote.
