N Brown, the plus-size retailer behind the Simply Be and Jacamo brands, today assured shoppers it will resist hiking prices despite the pound’s plunge.

Chains including Next have warned that sterling’s fall against the dollar — the currency many retailers use to buy products — since the Brexit vote will mean higher price tags in shops.

N Brown invested in price cuts in its first half, with some pieces 10% cheaper than a year earlier, and chief executive Angela Spindler said that approach is unlikely to change.

“Price cuts really resonate with customers at times like these,” she said.

Lower prices helped revenue rise 1% to £429.4 million in the six months to August 27.

Profits beat expectations at £31.6 million, despite falling on the £39.4 million recorded a year earlier.

The shares enjoyed their best day since 2008, rising by 18.1p, or more than 10%, to 194p.
