Sainsbury’s boss Justin King nets £8m reward

The boss of Sainsbury's has landed a record pay, bonus and share option package worth almost £8 million.

The huge reward for Justin King, the chief executive of Britain's third biggest supermarket group, comes weeks after it was revealed that Sainsbury's staff will get a cash bonus averaging £620.

Sainsbury's accounts published today show that Mr King was paid a base salary of £900,000 last year topped up with a bonus of £1.085 million, a pension supplement of £270,000 and benefits of £103,000.

On top of that he was awarded shares worth £990,000 and exercised share options with a value of around £4.2 million.
