Greece has announced that anyone over 60 who refuses the Covid vaccine from January will be fined 100 euros a month.

“I don’t care whether the measure will cost me some extra votes in the elections,” Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said after the measure was passed. “I am convinced that we are doing the right thing and I am convinced that this policy will save lives.”

The country is currently battling an infection surge and the growing presence of the omicron variant, prompting the swift new strategy.

17 per cent of Greeks over 60 have not yet received a jab, but nine in ten Greeks dying of Covid are from the age group.

What do you think of the decision?
