West Londoners may find their morning commute looks a little different this morning – and might make them wish they’d had a bigger breakfast.

A new art installation has opened at Gloucester Road station, and features two 4m high fried egg sculptures.

The artwork, called “my name is lettie eggysrub” is by London-born artist Heather Phillipson, and takes over an 80m disused platform at the station.

It has been installed as part of Art on the Underground’s 2018 programme, which this year features exclusively female artists.

Exploring the dual roles of the egg as a foodstuff and in biological processes, imagery used in the surreal work includes tomato ketchup and custard tarts, diagrams of chicken foetuses and egg sandwiches.

Alongside twelve video screens, suspended images and 16 printed panels, the display also features a massive automated whisk.

The artwork will be on display at the station at for one year, and is Phillipson’s first public commission in the UK.
