Paul Sinha

Clever, quickfire Sinha has skipped the Edinburgh Festival this year, making his Soho run easily the pick of the weekend. This former doctor might have upset his parents by ditching his stethoscope but he delights audiences with his smart riffs. Daytime TV fans will know Sinha as the resident trivia buff on ITV1’s The Chase.

Until tomorrow, Soho Theatre, W1 (020 7478 0100, sohotheatre.com)

Bob Mills

Old comedians never die, they just return to the clubs. Veteran Mills took a break to write for television but has gone back to his roots, delivering well-observed social comment onstage. Plus madcap clown Spencer Brown and Brett Goldstein, another gifted multitasker, recently seen in the Ricky Gervais sitcom Derek.

Tomorrow, 99 Club, WC2 (07760488119, 99clubcomedy.com)

The Comedy Store Players

This is one London institution the Olympic ceremonies overlooked. The improv gang have been pitching up scriptless every Sunday for more than 25 years and still clearly love lobbing new ideas around in public. Linchpin Paul Merton is absent at the Edinburgh Festival, but legends Andy Smart, Neil Mullarkey and Josie Lawrence will be unearthing comedy gold on the spot.

Sunday, Comedy Store, SW1 (0844 871 7699, thecomedystore.co.uk)
