Baywatch saved from drowning?

Can Spielberg give Baywatch the mouth-to-mouth it needs?
Metro10 April 2012

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water... Jaws director Steven Spielberg has snapped up the movie rights to TV show Baywatch.

The Oscar-winner, who was behind Schindler's List and a string of other acclaimed movies, is said to be desperate to bring the glossy lifeguard drama to the big screen.

The show, famous for acting as flimsy as the costumes worn by its cast, made stars of David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson.

It was a hit in the early 1990s but has since become a byword for the worst in TV titillation.

Spielberg, who has wowed millions with movies such as ET and Raiders Of The Lost Ark, is well known for his storytelling gifts.

But turning Baywatch into a decent film may be his greatest challenge to date. Sources say he plans to make the movie next year.
