James Bond's cigar has been saved from the film censors.

Anti-smoking campaigners called on the British Board of Film Classification to halt the 'glamorisation' of smoking, citing Die Another Day where Pierce Brosnan smoked a Havana as a glaring example.

But the BBFC decided 007 was unlikely to encourage young people to take up the habit.

'Many people felt we should not prohibit smoking in films as it would be unrealistic,' said its spokesman.
