Fredrik Gertien's documentary about the alleged perils of being a Nicaraguan banana worker has landed the director in serious trouble with the Dole Food Company.
The multinational denies the charges that many of the workers were made sterile and even died in the process of gaining them fat profits. Nonetheless, there is damning archival footage here, and copious extracts of the court case during which the workers were represented by Juan Dominguez, a well-known showman "accident attorney". Dole lost and is now appealing and seems to be suing almost everyone in sight. It may be a never-ending story - but I know whose side I'm on.
