Get intellectual with A Closed Book

A Closed Book is what you might call an intellectual thriller, yet Adair’s decent-enough script (its red herrings are a bit of a cheat but there are some great lines), not to mention an excellent performance from Tom Conti, are continually undermined by the Hammer Horror-ish direction.

Conti is a spoilt art critic, Sir Paul, who lost his eyes in a car crash and now lives like a hermit in his family pile. That is, until a beautiful new secretary, Jane Ryder (Darryl Hannah) makes herself at home. Eminently watchable, her huge lips and golden tresses look as if they’ve been swiped off a Bratz doll. Her knackered blue eyes are unique.
