Olivia Wilde has signed on to direct an upcoming Marvel movie, and she’s already been dropping hints about what it could involve.

As Deadline reports, the filmmaker and actress is on board to helm an as-yet-untitled solo film for a female character for the Marvel franchise at Sony – and fans already think they know which character she’ll be focusing on.

Wilde posted a spider emoji when replying to news of the story on Twitter, leading fans to speculate that a Spider-Woman movie is on the way.

The Spider-Woman character has been the alter-ego of a number of characters in the Spider-Man world, with Gwen Stacy, Mary Jane Watson and Jessica Drew all becoming the web-slinging heroine at one stage or another in the timeline.

It comes after Marvel and Sony confirmed plans for a Madame Web movie, which is due to be helmed by The Defenders and Jessica Jones director S.J. Clarkson.

Actress and filmmaker Wilde is known for directing her debut film Booksmart in 2019, as well as starring in films such as Tron: Legacy. She is also directing the upcoming thriller Don’t Worry Darling.
