Scream 4 is a funny horror

Deja vu: Courteney Cox has been here before
10 April 2012

Veteran Wes Craven's fourth episode of the successfully bloody horror franchise has Neve Campbell's Sidney, now the author of a self-help book, returning home to Woodsboro on the last stop of her publicity tour.

It is also the 10th anniversary of the murders and horror movie-fixated youngsters are organising parties, equipped with Ghostface masks, to mark the grisly events of the past.

Sidney reconnects with the now married Sheriff Dewey and Gale (David Arquette and Courteney Cox) and her other friends. But also with the real Ghostface (Dane Farwell) who puts them and the whole town in mortal danger.

The body count is high, as is Craven's determination to make us smile occasionally as the blood spurts. In the end, he engineers the kind of clever climax that justifies a film which otherwise seems a little repetitive.
