The Evening Standard has teamed up with Empire cinemas to bring you a pick of the best films each month.

Whether the thought of seeing Warcraft ignites a little excitement, or whether you'd prefer to laugh at Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, there's a variety of comedy, action and horror at the cinemas this June.

Warcraft

The peaceful realm of azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another. As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction. From opposing sides, two heroes are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people and their home.

So begins a spectacular saga of power and sacrifice in which war has many faces, and everyone fights for something.

Me Before You

Louisa “Lou” Clark (Clarke) lives in a quaint town in the English countryside. With no clear direction in her life, the quirky and creative 26-year-old goes from one job to the next in order to help her tight-knit family make ends meet. Her normally cheery outlook is put to the test, however, when she faces her newest career challenge. Taking a job at the local “castle,” she becomes caregiver and companion to Will Traynor (Claflin), a wealthy young banker who became wheelchair bound in an accident two years prior, and whose whole world changed dramatically in the blink of an eye. No longer the adventurous soul he once was, the now cynical Will has all but given up. That is until Lou determines to show him that life is worth living. Embarking together on a series of adventures, both Lou and Will get more than they bargained for, and find their lives and hearts changing in ways neither one could have imagined.

After supervillain Shredder escapes custody, he joins forces with mad scientist Baxter Stockman (Tyler Perry) and two dimwitted henchmen, Bebop (Gary Anthony Williams) and Rocksteady (WWE Superstar Stephen “Sheamus” Farrelly), to unleash a diabolical plan to take over the world. As the Turtles prepare to take on Shredder and his new crew, they find themselves facing an even greater evil with similar intentions: the notorious Krang.

The Nice Guys

1970s Los Angeles, and hired enforcer and detective Jackson Healy (Russell Crowe) is going about his business, delivering messages with his fists at the request of his paying clientele.

One such unlucky victim is Holland March (Ryan Gosling), a Private Investigator who’s been rather down on his luck of late – and things only get worse when Healy turns up on his door ready to deliver a couple of sucker punches.

But when Healy is later appointed by a concerned mother (Kim Basinger), who also happens to work for the Department of Justice, regarding her missing daughter, Amelia, he must team up with a decent PI to assist him in solving the case. Much to his surprise, he gets a couple of trusty recommendations for none other than Holland March…

McCarthy is joined in The Boss by an all-star cast led by Kristen Bell, Peter Dinklage and Kathy Bates. Directed by Ben Falcone (Tammy), the comedy is based on an original character created by McCarthy and written by McCarthy and Falcone alongside their Groundlings collaborator, Steve Mallory. The film is produced by McCarthy and Falcone through their On the Day productions and Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Chris Henchy through their Gary Sanchez Productions.

Mother's Day

As Mother’s Day draws to a close, a host of disparate characters reflect on their relationships with their mums. Among the ensemble: divorced mother-of-two Sandy (Jennifer Aniston) and successful writer Miranda (Julia Roberts) who gave up her only child Kristin for adoption. Meanwhile, Kristin herself (Britt Robertson) looks to track her mother down on the advice of her close friend Jesse (Kate Hudson) who must deal with her own parents’ collapsing marriage. The lives of these various characters soon intermingle in surprising ways.

The Conjuring 2

New Line Cinema’s supernatural thriller “The Conjuring 2,” with James Wan (“Furious 7”) once again at the helm following the record-breaking success of “The Conjuring,” brings to the screen another real case from the files of renowned demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren.

Reprising their roles, Oscar nominee Vera Farmiga (“Up In the Air,” TV’s “Bates Motel”) and Patrick Wilson (the “Insidious” films), star as Lorraine and Ed Warren, who, in one of their most terrifying paranormal investigations, travel to north London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by malicious spirits.
