Drake has released Her Loss, his second studio album this year, and it’s a collaboration with Atlanta-based rapper 21 Savage.
The 16-track album, which runs to an hour long, sees Drake rap and sing over a sample from Daft Punk’s 2000 hit One More Time in song Circo Loco, and also includes a feature from Travis Scott on track Pussy & Millions.
And, it seems like fans are happy. One tweeted, “I wanna thank everybody for telling Drake Honestly, Nevermind is a terrible album cuz he was in rare form on Her Loss,” while another said: “Seriously Drake is solidified in the industry it’s amazing seeing him drop what he wants all the while being versatile in his projects. ‘Her Loss’ definitely top3 albums of 2022.”
In Her Loss, Drake returns to more of a straightforward rap-style album. His album Honestly, Nevermind, which was released in June, was described as a dance album.
This is not the first time that 21 Savage and Drake have worked together. They also collaborated on the single Sneakin in 2016, on 21 Savage’s tracks Issa and Mr. Right Now, released in 2017 and 2020, and on Drake’s Certified Lover Boy track Knife Talk, in 2021.
Most notably, they worked together on the song Jimmy Cooks from Drake’s seventh studio album Honestly, Nevermind. The song was the most successful track on the record – peaking at to number one on the Billboard top 100.
Her Loss was announced on October 22, halfway through the newly released music video for Jimmy Cooks, when, at the 1:25-minute mark, the clip briefly stopped.
The album was set to be released on October 28 but was pushed back to November 4 as Canadian producer 40, who was one of the key producers on Her Loss, contracted Covid.
After the announcement, Drake and 21 Savage released a series of fake promotions, including a clip from a Howard Stern interview with the rap duo, which in fact never happened, and a photo of the duo on the front of America Vogue.

The album’s cover art is a picture of the model Qui Yasuka who, according to Complex, is a “nail stylist and professional adult dancer based in Houston”.
According to Pitchfork, Honestly, Nevermind, became Drake’s 11th US number-one album.
21 Savage’s last solo album was 2018’s I Am > I Was, and his last collaborative album was 2020’s Savage Mode II , which he made with producer Metro Boomin.
