All-singing all-dancing: pop-up cabaret in Soho

An Olympic alternative for cabaret lovers at Archer Street Bar
Olivia Williams26 July 2012

As a welcome distraction from the Olympics the Archer Street bar is opening a pop-up cabaret club for Londoners who fancy an entertaining alternative.

While many theatres are closed for the Olympic period, Archer Street Bar has seized the opportunity to coax some of London's most exciting musical stars to come to and perform while spectators enjoy cocktails and canapes.

In a series of nightly performances, the cast from musicals such as Jersey Boys and Priscilla Queen of the Desert will be belting out numbers from their shows, up close and personal.

A sophisticated night out, it's also double dip recession-friendly to boot since the entertainment is free and their waiters will be on hand to ply you with complimentary pre-dinner snackettes between 6-7.30pm.

Your wallet might find it more difficult to avoid temptation when it comes to drinks: Archer Street are the proud owners of the first exclusive Billecart-Salmon Champagne bar in London, where you will find copious amounts of this rare label. Or you can opt for one of their summer cocktails such as the charmingly named 'Champagne in Yorkshire' – a delicious blend of champagne, gin, rhubarb liquor and syrup.

We also like the sound of the 'Earl of Archer', with Tanqueray Gin, blueberry liqueur, Earl Grey syrup, fresh lemon juice and a dash of tonic water – far more irresistible than a plain old gin and tonic.

In many ways it will be more comfortable than going to watch a musical in the theatre – sinking into a cushy chair with waiter service is far more relaxing than being cramped up in the rafters of the theatre having gulped some wine down during the interval.

And if you're still peckish post-show, renowned Italian restaurant Bocca di Lupo is next door.

The Pop-Up Cabaret is on at Archer Street, W1D from the 27th July to 12th August. Tickets: bookings@archerstreet.co.uk
