Back in the Open Air

10 April 2012

For the first time this millennium, the new season at the Open Air Theatre will be a Bottom-less experience. So no kissing ass in the leafy bowers of Regent's Park in A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Instead, this year's season leads with a couple of other Shakespeares - Romeo & Juliet and As You Like It. Later in the year Ian Talbot also directs Oh! What A Lovely War as the annual musical, with Merlin The Magnificent being the annual children's show.

The thrusting Dominic Hill will direct Romeo & Juliet, with Alan Westaway and Laura Main as the young lovers. Meanwhile, Shakespeare's As You Like It will be directed by Rachel Kavanaugh, who directed Alice In Wonderland for the RSC last year. This features Benedict Cumberbatch and Rebecca Johnson and hero and heroine, Rosalind and Orlando.
