George set to hit the stage

10 April 2012

Boy George is to appear on the stage for the first time - in the West End musical based on his own life.

The Culture Club frontman will play a starring role in Taboo, a musical set 20 years ago in the New Romantic era. But he won't be taking the more obvious option of starring as himself - instead playing one of his cross-dressing friends.

Boy George - real name George O'Dowd - is lining up to play the part of fashion designer Leigh Bowery. A source said: "George thought about playing himself, but realised he couldn't pass for himself 20 years younger. He also thought about playing the part of Marilyn, but he doesn't have the legs for it."
