Text-based works from Tracey Emin and Jean-Michel Basquiat will feature in a new exhibition set to explore the relationship between written words and the visual world.

The show titled Between the Lines will run at the Maddox Gallery for three weeks, from June 6.

More than 40 works will feature in the group exhibition, all exploring the role of language and image as well as the power of words in modern society.

Between the Lines will delve into the effects of language over the past fifty years, through a wide range of works, including I Want To Be Inside EU by The Connor Brothers and Everybody Is Full Of Sh*t by Mel Bochner.

It will also focus on how artists have repurposed advertising slogans, billboards, book titles and phrases to make new narratives in art.

A number of works from David Shrigley will be on display, including his 2018 piece I Am Currently On Fire and a 2019 artwork titled My Rampage Is Over. They will be shown alongside Be A Somebody With A Body by Andy Warhol and a work from British Street artist Banksy.

The exhibition will also include works from Ed Ruscha, Massimo Agostinelli, Grayson Perry and Brendan Murphy.

Between the Lines made its debut earlier this year at the gallery’s Swiss venue, Gstaad.

The four-floor Victorian townhouse gallery, located on Mayfair’s Maddox Street, specialises in contemporary art.

Between the Lines runs from June 6-26 at the Maddox Gallery, for more information visit maddoxgallery.com
