David Harper has become the latest famous face to miss out on a place in the Celebrity MasterChef semi-finals after failing to impress judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode.

The antiques expert received disappointing feedback for his strangely-presented "medieval inspired" beef stew dish which was slammed by Torode for being "too powerful".

He said: "Your sauce is a nice consistency but I find the whole spice thing overpowering".

A surprisingly upbeat David said after he was kicked off: "From now on a new thing in my life is going to be cooking."

Audley Harrison fared better, receiving positive comments and sailing through to the second stage of the fourth heats round.

He, Gleb Savchenko, Cherry Healey and Jimmy Osmond will be tasked with the infamously difficult relay invention test in the next episode, as well as the daunting task of cooking for a set of previous MasterChef winners.

So far, Alexis Conran, Tommy Cannon, Reverend Richard Coles, Neil Back, Louise Minchin, and Sid Owen have made it through to the semi-finals, with only two more places remaining.

The fourth heats continue on Friday at 8.30pm.
