Two years after first appearing on Strictly Come Dancing, Debbie McGee has finally become a worthy champion by triumphing in the Christmas special.

The TV star, 61, was paired with Kevin Clifton for the festive episode and the duo wowed the judges with their quickstep to Michael Bublé's version of Jingle Bells.

Before being crowned winners, Debbie and Kevin closed the show on a high note by receiving top marks for their performance.

Joe Sugg and Dianne Buswell - one of two real-life couples performing in the episode - also earned a perfect score of 40 for their Street Commercial routine to Sleigh Ride by District 78.

The all-star extravaganza commenced with a magical group performance featuring the professional dancers and the Christmas cast of 2019 in Leeds Castle, Kent.

Each couple then took to the dance floor and did their best to wow the judges, whose marks were combined with votes from the studio audience to decide the winner.

Gemma Atkinson and Gorka Márquez were the first pair to dance, performing a Jive to I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus by John Mellencamp and scoring 35.

Mark Wright and Janette Manrara equalled their marks with their salsa to Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses.

A Cha Cha to Get The Party Started by Shirley Bassey landed Chizzy Akudolu and Graziano Di Prima an impressive 36 points.

Richard Arnold and Luba Mushtuk ended up at the bottom of the leaderboard after their Foxtrot to You’re A Mean One, Mr Grinch by Sabrina Carpenter won a (still impressive) 32 points.

After her win, Debbie said: "I wasn’t expecting it! It’s just amazing but you know, everybody has been fantastic – I think it’s everybody’s because we all had a great time, everyone did such great dances."

Strictly Come Dancing will return for another full series next summer as a whole new batch of celebrities launch their bids for the Glitterball Trophy.
