Nicole Scherzinger has revealed she is "likely" to return to next year's X Factor after show bosses invited her to continue her stint as a judge on the programme.

The former Pussycat Dolls frontwoman previously remained coy when quizzed about her future on the show even after fellow judges Louis Walsh and Sharon Osborne confirmed they would be back in 2018.

But in an interview with Ok! Magazine Scherzinger admitted she would be interested in future series.

“I’ve been asked to return and hopefully we can make it work. I love it so most likely I will come back. I never know what’s going to happen but The X Factor feels like family to me,” she told the publication.

“The show is too much fun for me not to come back,” she continued. “I love this job and I love this country.”

It was rumoured that Scherzinger might be replaced by Cheryl after the former judge made her comeback on the show as Simon Cowell’s guest during the Judges’ Houses phase.

Comments Scherzinger had made in the past around the possibility of her returning to The X Factor had led many to believe 2017 might be her last year.

X Factor's Louis Walsh: Sharon Osbourne will never retire

She told The Mirror: “I’m a singer first. If I don’t come back it’s not because I don’t love it."

She added: "It's because I'm a singer first. Every artist needs that time out to reflect.

"This has been a very transitional year for me – career-wise and personally. Anybody who's successful in what they do is making sacrifices."

Standard Online has contacted a representative of The X Factor for comment.

The X Factor continues Saturday, November 4 at 8.20pm on ITV.
