The Mayfair flat which Jimi Hendrix said was his “first real home” opens to the public in February following a multi-million pound restoration.

The main room of 23 Brook Street has been restored to how it was in 1968, when Hendrix moved in with his girlfriend Kathy Etchingham.

It forms part of a new visitor attraction with number 25, which was once the home of composer George Frideric Handel.

Hendrix moved in shortly before the release of his classic double-album Electric Ladyland, telling Etchingham: “This is my first real home of my own.”

The exhibition includes unseen pictures of the star, who died in 1970 at the age of 27.
