Hats off to This King's Head

Traditional: King's Head
10 April 2012

This King's Head is still as arty as it ever was - not our thing, if we're honest - but it's kept this tradition up for years and as they say, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

So, hats off to a long standing institution. It has a decent Victorian interior that hasn't fallen prey to the urge to renovate and real fires (not that fake gas stuff) giving it a kind of cosy, lived in atmosphere during quieter, weekday afternoons.

It has pretty decent beers on the hand pumps and good service. The old cash till is still there, but at least they don't charge in shillings and pence any more, we suppose that makes the drink seem too expensive nowadays - sixty bob for a bottle of lager - Guineas would be more appropriate, but the sums get too hard if there's a lot on the tab.

The theatre's the reason most people go there and there's usually live music in the bar every night of the week. There's a late license - 1am during the week and 2am weekends.
