North Nineteen is a cracking local

10 April 2012

North Nineteen is a pleasantly refurbished pub on the backstreets off the Holloway Road.

The post-war building is attractive enough and the refurbishment considerate - the two separate bars remain, while a back room with heavy flock wallpaper adds character.

Stripped floorboards - the stock in trade of any refurb - give a light and airy, but not unpleasant, feeling. Being in an area comprising the council estate west of Hornsey road and Holloway's flatshareland, there was a genuinely (and surprisingly) mixed crowd.

It helps that the landlord is a consummate host and is clearly trying his best to make this a comfortable pub.

There are a couple of ales on - with a promise of more - and an interesting, homemade menu on offer. There are also regular music nights and even an mini-ale festival is promised.

Due to its location we wonder if this place will receive the wider audience it deserves, but for the time being, the residents of N19 have a cracking community local on their hands.
