Brick Lane is getting its first vegan curry menu

Ailis Brennan16 February 2018

Gone vegan, but missing that sweet weekend Ruby Murray?

Do not fear, because Brick Lane, home to a host of the capital’s curry connoisseurs, is welcoming its first all-vegan curry menu.

City Spice has become the first restaurant to announce the addition of a dairy-free-meat-free menu to its roster, featuring 14 dishes created by owner Abdul Ahad.

Following a rise in requests for vegan options and a recent appearance at Sri Lanka’s Taste of Britain festival, Ahad was inspired to expand the menu to feature a new selection of vegan options.

Diners at City Spice can tuck into shobji kufta bhujon (vegetable balls cooked in a spicy sauce), daal begun gatta (slow cooked okra with aubergine), a mixed vegetable rogan josh and a Shahi Sahakari Thali plate of uribeeshi biran, bombay aloo, begun daal gatta, chappati and rice.

Still missing that chicken tikka masala? We thought not.
