Fay Maschler's week in food: from pea gazpacho to mutton curry

The Evening Standard's restaurant critic details the culinary highlights of her week
Cuttlefish croqueta with fennel aioli at Auction Against Hunger
Fay Maschler1 June 2016

1. Summer: Greece is the word. From the invigorating £14.95/£19.95 two/three-course lunch menu at Notting Hill’s Mazi, I relish evolved taramasalata and Grandmama’s meatballs with handmade crisps. And ouzo.

2. Ivan Simeoli is now chef at Osteria 60 (with terrace) at Baglioni Hotel, SW7. Burrata di Andria (from Puglia) with tomato water and celery seems rather nebulously worthwhile.

3. Seeing staff enjoying themselves while working at Frenchie in Covent Garden is one plus, pea gazpacho with Ticklemore cheese and trout roe definitely another.

4. Cuttlefish croqueta with fennel aioli from Nieves Barragán-Mohacho, one of the many brilliant chefs who helped to raise a mighty £218,000 at Auction Against Hunger at Street Feast’s Hawker House.

5. The brown butter and honey tart at The Marksman on Hackney Road is a lovesome thing, God wot! But mutton curry, roti and green bean saffron chutney is also not inconsiderable.
