Ace: mince pies at the Brompton Food Market

1. Can a Scotch egg qualify as Architectural Aspiration — the title of the magnificent bas-relief outside the Riba restaurant in Portland Place? Afterwards a gratifying look at Ordinary Beauty, the lyrical exhibition of Edwin Smith photographs.

2. Scrambled eggs on wholemeal toast with grill-branded bacon at the members’ club of the Hotel Café Royal. Glam and comfortable hiding place.

3. At the opening party for Forbidden City, the sultry bar below the restaurant A Wong, honey-barbecued pork jerky matched with Macao port, cherry juice, bourbon and egg white cocktail.

4. Two ace mince pies (pictured) created by Luke Mackay at Brompton Food Market, one made with rare breed mutton and London porter vindicating historical mincemeat.

5. Watching Kit Hesketh-Harvey, brother of our editor Sarah Sands, have the audience at Crazy Coqs cabaret in stitches (and in tears), we nibbled on Olives Zedel et Amandes Roties.
