Excellent Spitalfields Indian restaurant Gunpowder will host a unique pair of family feasts next month.

The site, which was awarded a Bib Gourmand by Michelin, is inviting Indian cook Amandip Uppal, author of Indian Made Easy to cook with the team on June 4 and 5.

She will join Gunpowder’s co-founder Harneet Baweja and head chef Nirmal Save to lay on nostalgic dinners celebrating family recipes passed down through generations.

The dishes, which will all be designed for sharing, will include cashew and mint-stuffed lamb kofta with a saffron, cardamom and lemon dressing; baked salmon with crème fraiche, coconut and charred lime; and marrow raita with crushed rose petals.

Family-style cook: Amandip Uppal

Dessert will include Harneet’s take on the British classic bread and butter pudding as well as one of Amandip’s favourite dishes, pistachio kulfi. This will be served in cones with stem ginger, toasted coconut and chocolate.

Hardeep said: “Amandip and I have both inherited our passion for food from our families and we wanted to celebrate these traditions.”

Amandip added: “The breadth and depth of flavours which emerge from Indian cooking never ceases to amaze me and it’s been a delight to unearth new quirks, flavours and customs with Harneet and Nirmal.”

The family feasting dinners will take place at Gunpowder at 7pm on Sunday 4 and Monday 5 June. Tickets cost £35 and can be booked via hello@gunpowderlondon.com.
