Homeslice pizza at King's Cross Filling Station

Roll up for top class pizza and prosecco by the canal

You might've been hearing about the King's Cross Filling Station (KXFS) rather a lot lately - probably because of Shrimpy's, the new restaurant from the Bistroteque boys that has the foodie world all a-flutter with its softshell crab burger.

But there's another reason to visit this trendy new gastronomic hub: the Homeslice pizza boys have a new residency at the KXFS bar outside. Homeslice have been wowing the London street food scene at neighbouring Eat Street Market with their Neopolitan-stlye pizzas cooked with the best ingredients in a wood-fired oven.

For the next three months (until the end of September) George (the one with the snazzy moustache) and his two pals will be hand-rolling perfect pizzas at KXFS, a winner of a space overlooking the Regent's Canal.

Perch on one of the green and red painted picnic table and choose between pizza by the slice (£3) or a whole pizza (£9) washed down with Prosecco on tap (wonderful idea isn't it?) or beer and cider.

We couldn't choose so we ordered all three from the typically short menu: the lemon and thyme-infused buffalo ricotta with spincach, garlic and mushroom was sensational and the ricotta so light it was almost like a mousse; the serrano ham with stilton and walnut could have been overpowering but it was exquisite; and last not least was our favourite, the trusty old margherita which was nothing short of incredible. The tomato base was perfect, the basil fresh and the mozzarella in sporadic pools.

Hand-rolling the dough obviously does wonders as the base was springy, stretchy and light, just as it should be.

These boys really are onto something - get down there and see for yourself.

Homeslice pizza are at KXFS, Goods Way, N1C 4UR seven nights a week until the end of September, homeslicepizza.co.uk
