Roast: A bastion of British domestic cuisine

With that bastion of domestic cuisine as its trading name and central calling, Roast’s self-worded ‘deliciously British’ menu flies the flag for high-end traditional fare. Set in the heart of Borough Market, it’s the brainchild of the Cinnamon Club founder Iqbal Wahhab and – as you’d imagine from its earthy location – prides itself on fresh, seasonal ingredients. Make no mistake, this is a far more formal affair than many of Borough’s more recent restaurant additions with its elevated views from its floor-to-ceiling windows matching its elevated price points. But the calibre of its day-to-evening menus, which run from substantial Full Englishes and a decadent lobster benedict through to lavish lunches and – inevitably – some of London’s best roast dinners (shout out to the suckling pig and three-bird roasted goose options) that come served with high-end sides and a wine list that emphasises British producers.
