So tampon macarons are a thing now

Put your squeamish sensibilities to one side. Top notch bespoke macaron pastry whizzes Ohlala have joined forces with the charity Bloody Good Period to create 'delicately flavoured' white-almond tampon-shaped macarons splattered with edible blood.

That might not immediately sound hugely appetising, but there's a story behind it.

Figures show that as many as one in ten young women in the UK can't actually afford to buy sanitary products. That's where charities like Bloody Good Period come in. Their aim is simple: to create a sustainable flow (their words not ours) of sanitary protection for all women, refugees and asylum seekers.

Throughout the country, Bloody Good Period research shows that many women in hardship resort to using either toilet paper, scraps or nothing at all during their menstrual cycles.

Buying a box of eight of these macs filled with vanilla, raspberry or rose buttercream can help. From the £24.50 price tag, £10 will go directly to women in need.

We are yet to try them, but curious about what you think. Tweet us your comments and stories @esgolondon and share your experiences with us.
