THE WINNERS

Quaglino's Bury Street, SW1 A homage to the glamorous old Quaglino's when it reopened. Second only to The Ivy as the favourite celebrity haunt. Dinner about £40 a head.

Financial performance: profit of £880,000, only slightly down

Coq d'ArgentPoultry, EC2 Conran's first City outlet. Spectacular rooftop restaurant. Three-course set lunch is £29.50.
Performance: profit of £1.25 million, up 22 per cent. Results "satisfactory"

Le Pont de la Tour Butler's Wharf, SE1 Where the Blairs took the Clintons. Dinner about £50. Performance: £1.1 million profit little changed

Blueprint Cafe Butler's Wharf, SE1 One of Conran's first restaurants after Habitat sold. Dinner £35. Performance: profits almost unchanged at £181,000

THE LOSERS

Bluebird Store King's Road, SW3 Converted Bluebird garage. Expensive groceries and drink favoured by old money and young celebs alike. Kylie was a regular Performance: loss of more than £1 million. Now an upmarket Sainsbury's.

Great Eastern Hotel Liverpool Street, EC2 Used by City set. Gary Lineker launched Comic Relief here this year. Six-course dinner about £45 a head; King double room £250. Performance: about £250,000 down. Conran owns half

Mezzo Wardour Street, W1 Opened in 1995 and can seat up to 600. About £45 a head. Performance: loss of £69,000 on reduced turnover.

The Conran Shop Fulham Road, SW3 In the former Michelin premises. Performance: profits more than halved to £464,000
