What's new in the world of restaurants

10 April 2012
  • Notting Hill's latest fashionable newcomer is Number 10, a 'bar, restaurant and members' bar' on Golborne Road. The kitchen is headed by Michelin-bespangled chef Julien Maisonneuve, who will be turning his hand to 'quails' scotch eggs with sun-dried tomatoes, cress and homemade salad cream'. Number 10 also offers afternoon tea - scones, clotted cream, crumpets, cakes and so forth, with a champagne option... naturally. Number 10, 10 Golborne Road, W10 (020-8969 8922).
  • Fans of Cristini (the small husband-and-wife Italian restaurant run by Giuseppe and Yara Cristini in Seymour Place, W1) will be pleased to hear about the opening of a new and larger Cristini in Sussex Place. The food is honest and authentically Italian. There's also a keenly priced lunch menu - two courses £12.50; three for £17. Cristini, 28 Sussex Place, W2 (020-7706 7900).
  • Hampton's opened on Valentine's Day, and the head chef is Russell Pollard, who cooked at Marco Pierre White's City operation. The new restaurant has splendid views across the river and offers 'modern European' food, which translates as carpaccio, but made with the finest English beef, served with preserved mustard pears and stilton. Hampton's, Hampton Court Road, Hampton Court, Surrey (020-8979 4740).
