One of Britain’s first millionaire bankers, Lloyds group founder Henry Barnett (1815-1896) built this magnificent 11-bedroom mansion at 100 Hamilton Terrace in St John’s Wood, NW8, in 1890 as a symbol of his wealth and status.

How times have changed.

Today the house has been given a “Sunset Boulevard” makeover and a price tag beyond anything Barnett could have imagined — £22.5 million.

Sold with its new interior furnishings, the buyer can sink into vast white sofas surrounded by palm trees and limited-edition prints of Elton John, Robert Redford and Paul Newman.

The house’s six floors now include a luxurious “leisure complex” stretching under the rear garden with a cocktail bar and a huge swimming pool plus a gym, steam and massage rooms, cinema room another bar and a games room.

Famous tenants

The late Victorian double fronted residence was rented by the former Take That frontman and wife Ayda for a reported £20,000 a month last year when his applications to build a similar subterranean complex at their home in Holland Park were rejected three times.

The couple faced objections from neighbour Mr Page, but Williams won conditional permission for the work at the end of last year.
