8 hurt in rush-hour bus crash

Harriet Arkell12 April 2012

Eight people were taken to hospital today after a rushhour accident involving two cars and a bus.

Firefighters took more than an hour to cut a man out of his Renault Laguna after the crash on Kingston Road, Merton, just before 7.30am.

He suffered a broken arm while the bus passengers needed treatment for minor injuries at St George's Hospital in Tooting.

Police believe the Renault collided with a Ford Fiesta travelling in the same direction before the head-on collision with the bus. The Fiesta hit a lamp-post while the bus, a 163 London General running from Morden to Wimbledon, hit a garden wall.

Police are waiting to interview the motorists involved. Kingston Road remained closed this morning between Hartfield and Bushey roads.
