A man's shopping limit

We all know most men would rather be in the pub than shopping. But now, wives and girlfriends have been told just how long they have at the shops before he starts huffing and checking his watch - 72 minutes.

Most men see shopping as a mission - they know what they want and where to get it, rather than look around and compare prices, a Barclaycard study has found.

Women, however, have more patience - they will happily shop for 100minutes, say researchers.

They roam through shops until an item catches their eye, the Exeter University team found. To avoid a row, it is best for couples to go their separate ways after 72 minutes, the experts say.

Dr Tim Denison said: 'For many couples a shopping trip is a recipe for disaster - men tend to adopt a more smash and grab approach while women are more sophisticated.'
