Abortion row girl is pregnant again

13 April 2012

A schoolgirl who had an abortion without her mother's knowledge is pregnant again, reports said today.

The youngster was 14 when she had a termination arranged by a school health worker earlier this year.

She allegedly plans to keep the new baby, which is due in July - just after she finishes her GCSEs.

Her mother told BBC News: "Me and my family are supportive 100%. We'll be there for her - like we said previously."

She added: "She's 15, she made her own mind up. She was hell-bent on replacing the one she lost, basically.

"Other than strap her to her bedroom or follow her around with a camera 24 hours a day, I don't see what else I could do as a parent."

The news comes days after Children's Minister Margaret Hodge said schoolgirls should be given contraceptive injections to cut teenage pregnancies.

She said young girls often became pregnant because they lacked self-esteem, and she branded single motherhood "a bad thing".

In an interview with The Independent, Mrs Hodge said: "What is really interesting is this contraceptive injection. If people are having sex, you don't want them to have babies at that age.
