BA counts cost of Heathrow strikes

A WEEKEND of chaos at Heathrow could cost British Airways up to £40m in lost revenues as more than 80,000 BA passengers were left stranded by wildcat strikes.

New swipe card clocking-on procedures saw 250 disgruntled check-in and ticketing staff walk out on Friday night. Talks with unions began today.

Many travellers will be be demanding 100% refunds while others were accepting £100-a-night vouchers from BA for hotel accommodation. The company, which has laid off nearly 13,000 staff over the past 20 months, has admitted new part-time contracts and increased levels of sick leave had left it with cabin crew shortages.
