Baby's body found in stream

13 April 2012

The body of a new-born baby boy was found in a stream, police said today.

Officers were called to the stream in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, on Sunday afternoon after an off-duty policeman reported seeing a bundle floating in the water.

Specialist underwater search team divers were called in and last night recovered a package which contained the body of a white baby boy.

Police have said they will not speculate as to the cause of death of the child and are currently awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination which will take place this afternoon at the JRII Hospital in Oxford and will be conducted by a paediatric pathologist and a pathologist from the Home Office.

The scene near the H6 Childs Way road is currently sealed off and a press conference has also been scheduled by Thames Valley Police for tomorrow morning.

Brendan O'Dowda, from Milton Keynes police area, said: "I am appealing to the mother of this child to contact us. She can call us on 01908 686000. We are extremely concerned as she may need medical assistance."
