Boy killed in school fight

13 April 2012

A 15-year-old boy died today following a fight at a school in Greater Manchester, police said.

The boy was injured during an incident at Broadoak Comprehensive School in Partington at 12.30pm.

He was taken to Trafford General Hospital where he died at 1.05pm.

A Greater Manchester Police spokeswoman said two 14-year-old boys had been arrested in connection with the incident and were at police stations in Greater Manchester where they would be questioned later today.

She confirmed the argument had taken place in an annexe building at the rear of the school shortly before 12.30pm.

She refused to give details of how exactly the two teenagers were involved in the child's death, confirming only that they were "present" during the altercation.

She said: "There was a small group of children present at the time of the incident - around five to eight children."

She refused to confirm rumours that the boy who died may have suffered a heart problem.

Staff at the school, which has more than 420 pupils, fought to try to revive the boy but he was pronounced dead at 1.05pm.

The headmaster called the pupils into a special assembly and told them the news before they were allowed home.
