BT told to cut broadband profits

TELECOMS group BT was today ordered to lower the profit it makes when it sells access to its broadband network to rival telecoms companies.

Oftel and Ofcom said BT had 'significant market power', which enables the regulators to enforce price cuts.

After consulting with companies that compete with BT in supplying wholesale broadband to third-party internet service providers, Ofcom will tell BT by how many pounds a month its wholesale charge to rivals must be lower than its direct charge to ISPs.
