Citigroup faces SEC probe

CITIGROUP is being investigated by the US Securities and Exchange Commission over accounting for its Argentine business in 2001 and 2002, when the bank lost more than $2bn (£1.1bn).

The SEC has requested information about the accounts for 2001, 2002 and 2003, the world's largest financial services company said in a quarterly filing.
