Croydon is the capital's arson hotspot, says Fire Brigade

London's fire hotspot: Croydon is most hit by arson attacks
12 April 2012

Croydon has been named as the arson hotspot of the capital, the London Fire Brigade said.

Croydon emerged as the most high-risk area for arson, with 204 large deliberate fires in the last year, and also for serious blazes, with 638 in the last year.

The map, which can be seen online by clicking here, is based on the crime maps launched by Scotland Yard two years ago.

Susan Hall, chairwoman of London Fire Authority's community safety committee, said: "London's firefighters have done an excellent job of making the capital safer in recent years but there are still some areas that are having too many fires.
"The map shows that fires happen each and every day across London - what better incentive could there be for people to make sure it doesn't happen to them?"
