David Cameron 'hoped Sam's modelling photos would not resurface'

David Cameron has admitted he hoped racy photos of wife Samantha modelling would never come to light.

The pictures, taken more than a decade ago, soon after the couple married, show Mrs Cameron in a variety of outfits, draped across sofas and rolling on the floor with a kitten.

The fashion and retail executive apparently agreed to pose as a favour to a friend who designed the clothes.

Mr Cameron told reporters this morning that the couple were "both very suprised" when the photos surfaced in the Mail on Sunday.

"She did these pictures a long time ago in connection with her business, I think back in 1996 or 1997," he said.

"But we knew one day someone might remember them. We were hoping they would never appear, but they have. These things happen."
