Diana 'thought she would not be queen'

Princess Diana knew she would not be queen even on the day Prince Charles proposed.

In a documentary to be screened next month in the US, the princess says: "A voice said to me inside, 'You won't be queen but you'll have a tough role'." Diana: The Secret Tapes features neverbefore-seen material used by Andrew Morton in his 1992 exposè Diana: Her True Story.

The princess also describes how Prince Charles dismissed her suicide attempts.

She says: "I threw myself down the stairs when I was four months pregnant, trying to get my husband's attention. But he just said, 'You're crying wolf'."
