Foreign office anger over 'u-turn'

A foreign Office worker is facing disciplinary action today after declaring a "massive U-turn" over BBC World Service funding on the department's website.

An article revealing the Government had bowed to pressure over cuts and poured in an extra £2.2 million to protect the corporation's Arabic output was headlined "Massive U-turn on BBC World Service funding".

The headline was online for around 10 minutes before bosses stepped in and took it down. A Foreign Office spokeswoman said it "absolutely did not represent" their views and disciplinary procedures had been launched.
